Napoleon Dynamite has a wonderful title sequence, bringing in the cast and crew’s names spelled out in condiments on plates of cafeteria food and objects relating to the movie itself.
The main creator of the opening titles for *napolian dynamite* was a man called Saul Bass (1920-1996). He was not only one of the great graphic designers of the mid-20th century but the undisputed master of film title design thanks to his collaborations with Alfred Hitchcock, Otto Preminger and Martin Scorsese.
I really like the opening sequence to N.D, as it is very diffrent to the standard titles that you see on many films these days, and that is what makes this opening sequence stand out.
The idea to actualy write the titles on objects is a very well htought out idea, but yet is so simple no one ever really made it happen, until N.D came around, and made it all happen, this title sequence open'd many directors, film makers, and many other peoples eyes, it just shows them what is possible when you put your mind to it, and its not always the high-tech graphics or special effects that wins over the audience, it can simply be a blob of ketchup on a plate that wins them over, and all in all it is the plain simplicity of this title sequence that i like and enjoy the most, and that is what i think makes it work as a title sequence, it is simple yet effective and most importantly of all, it makes the audience engage morewith what is happening, and also it relates to the movie very well indeed, just by simply using a few props from teh movie itself.
