Life On Mars (scene by scene)

Life On Mars (Scene By Scene)
The clip opens with a close up shot of the main character (sam tyler) standing leaning on his vehicle, closely followed by an action shot which lasts not even a second, as what seems too be a very fast movie vehicle knocks sam too the floor.

In this quick scene the audience is shown that sam has been involved in an accident, which has clearly hurt him badly, (shown by the speed of the vehicle that hits him).

In the second shot we are shown sam tyler on the floor, with a reverse camera angle which is as if we are (as the audience) laying beside him seeing it from his view, this is very effective and kinda puts us in the scene more.

The spoken dialogue over the top introduces us too the idea for the tv drama that sam has been knocked over by the passing vehicle, and has some how been place back in time in (1973). The spoken dialogue over the top of the footage we are shown is very effective as the shots are obviously too quickly paced too actualy tell what is actualy going on within the scene / moment so therefore the dialoge over the top of the scenes is essential too actualy understand what is going on within the scenes.

The next scene is of sam walking down a street which is indeed set too be in 1973 with the old cars / old looking streets / buildings. The character seems very lost and confused, this whole *confused state* is reenforced by the spoken dialoge over the top where same states "am i mad", this reenforces the whole lost and confused state that sam is in.

The otehr characters that are in the scene (man and women) seem too either not relaise sam is there or class him as an outsider, as they bump into him, this also backs up the whole atmosphere and feeling of sam being lost and out of place.

This then very quickly cuts to a scene of sam walking into an office, with a very consused look on his face. This scene was shot in slowmotion too yet again back up the whole slowed down, back in time, confused state / atmosphere.

Also you will notice the old fasiond vending machine in the background this adds too the whole 1973 feel of the scene.

The next quick scene is of a man that walks passed the camera too reveal an office space, filled with other police officers / detectives etc, all the people seen are in older dated clothing, which adds too the 1973 genre again.

The next scene is of sam tyler wandring towards some buildings once again looking very confused as t whats happening / whats going on etc. The camera lookin up from below adds to the lost and confused state for which sam is in.

The next scene that we are faced with is an extream close up of sams facial features mainly being his eyes, too show his *reaction* (reaction shots). These are very effective and put the audience more into sams shoes so to speak. It makes the audience relaise in more depth what sam must be going through as far as being transported back in time and being knocked into what must be a coma.

On top of the moving close up shots of sam there is the titles that show up, the figures below life on show a quick kind of flick through of many dates eventualy getting too the date *1973* which sam is in, then from this it changes once again, into the title -mars- which completes the full title of -Life on mars-.

In the next few scenes we are introduced too the other chracters. This is not done in a simple way, the charactes are shown in their own *action* too give them more of a personal feeling / touch. for example the first character that is shown is sam tyler himself (john simm), he is show first getting up out of bed and then that soon swiftly moves onto him with a police badge, this could be showing that sam is always on going and is a very busy chracter or could indeed be showing that he is late for wor (getting out of bed late for example) and that he is dis-organised, us as an audience are suposed to come too are own decision about the chracter from this scene, which yet again makes us feel more in the scene it's self.

The next character we are shown is (Philip) he is shown smoking a cigarete, which could posibly show that he is a very laid back casual person or on the other side is a bit rough n tough. The 2nd shot / scene is of philip grabbin sam and twisting his arm too secure him into the arrest position, this backs up the idea of philip being more of the rough n tough character.

The next shot is of the 1973 based car, which comes flting into the shot, which is showing the sense of rusing around again, and keeps the audience on its toes and alert too whats going on in the scene. The character in this scene that we are introduced to is liz, she is shown standing a car, but seems too look shocked as the car skids into the scene, she is also seen with a hand bag over one shoulder which shows that she is a more casual character and posibly an undercover detective.

The next character that we are shown is dean, like the other characters he seems too be laid back but with a hint of profesionalism with the gun / balaclava scene.

The next character that is shown is marshal , who from the shots seems like a more quiet character who seems more in the background and does not seem to be a very active character as such. compared too the other characters who seem more active and involved with the enviroment.

The next scene / shot is of a prisoner with 2 detectives, this gives the audience an insight into an episode and what occours within that certain episode, also it shows that the team works well together, as there are 2 detectives not just 1.

The next scene is a quick camera pan around a group of officers and about 2 or 3 of them are preparing guns, which gives the sense of both profesionlisem and some sort of posible shoot outs later on?, and you'l notice even the guns (props) are dated too add too the whole *1973* feel / atmosphere.

Also i notcied that sam is at the font of the group which shows that he is posibly lead officer or maybe just standing there in place too show he is an outsider?.

The next scene shows sam and liz standing together, sam is leaning sligtly towards liz, which shows that there is a posible relationship, either happening or is an active relationship at that moment.

From that scene it moves very quickly onto an active scene, where both sam and phillip are in the car, once again philip is shown too be more casual as he has what looks like a burger in his mouth, while he is driving the car, this adds a comic feel too the scene. There is also the sense once again of ergency / rushing, with the car hurtling backwards in reverse. This rushing feel is explanded by the close ups of the cars wheels as it skids around the corner, brings the action closer to the audience and also makes the audience feel more in the scene so to speak.

The next scene is a group shot, of the line of chracters, this time philip is at the end of the line, which could show that he is the leader of the group, and as for sam he is standing on the other side of the line, the furtherest away from philp, which could show he is the other leader or just he is the *out sider* still?

The next shot shown is an action shot , full of many camera angles and snapy shots. as sam and phillip walk up too what i presume is a "bad guy", this is enforced when they both in unison punch the guy too the floor, whis shows that they both work wel las a team aswell. Mian diffrence is that sam seems not as confident as philip which shows that sam is a newbie on the team and philip has been working for a long time (posibly)

Overall this 1minute trailer sequence shows the audience all the chracters, along with there own personal touch added along side them, which brings the audience closer too teh action and makes them feel more in the scene, also in some cases and what the director was aiming for is for the audience too relate themselfs too the characters.

Popular lego videos (tags for life on mars video)

Popular lego videos on youtube usually tend to be tagged with words / phrases such as lego, stop animation, starwars, go miniman go, montage, toys, animation, and many more.

There are some tags that we cannnot use mainly due too the fact that our video does not include the material relating too that tag for example *starwars* we cannot use this tag as our video has no material relating to starwars.

The tags that we can use, such as *lego, animation, life on mars, crime, drama, tv, toys, etc...*.

If we use the tags (above) then our video will get some hits, but still will take atleast 3-4 months too get a decent number of hits, take for example one of my own productions (Crank dat old man) due too the name of the video and tha tags use -crank that, dance, etc.. - the video gained over 9,000 views, but that video has been *active and uploaded* for over 9 months now, so it just gos too show how long the videos have too be *active* in order too gain views / hits.

Overall i believe that our life on mars lego video will get views / hits over time, just aslong as we use life on mars, lego, and animation, as our tags and any others that come to mind, in order too gain as many hits as posible.

02/12/08 *Coverage / Cutaways*

02/12/2008

coverage:

Coverage (lens) : The size of the image a lens can produce.
Camera coverage : The amount of footage shot and different camera setups used in filming a scene.
Script Coverage : A short summary of a script, written by script readers to recommend whether a film should be made.
____________________________________________________________________________________
The coverage of a Lens, is the size of the image it can produce, measured as the diameter of the image circle produced by the optics. In a camera system the coverage must be large enough to cover the sensor or film used. In a view cover system, because the film plane can be moved independently of the lens plane, the lens must have enough coverage to cover the film while it is offset from the center of the coverage area. Inadequate coverage can lead to vignetting.
Camera coverage, in film making, is the amount of film footage shot and different camera setups used in filming a scene. When editing, the more coverage shot means that there is more footage the editor can work with in assembling the final cut.
Script coverage, is a film making term for the analysis and grading of Screen plays often within the "script development" department of a production company. While coverage may remain entirely verbal, it usually takes the form of a written report, guided by a rubic that varies from company to company.

Cut-Aways
cutaway: a cinematography technique
___________________________________________________________________
In film, a cutaway is the interruption of a continuously filmed action by inserting a view of something else. It is usually, although not always, followed by a cutback to the first shot.

London Underground Map Task (26/11/08)

26th November 08
*London Underground map*

Today we started the task of editing / changing the London underground map. (Changing station names with TV drama names... for example hammersmith to the OC)

At first the task seemed difficult and at times near too imposible, But as a group we soon got started on the task and seemed too get on rather well.
We were all give seperate tasks too do, i for example was give the task of writing the names of the tv dramas up on the board, and others in the class had too research tv shows / dramas in order too fill up the underground map.

Considering this task at first seemed very daunting and near imposible we have coped very well so far and are progressing well with this task, and im sure before long we will have this task completed!.... maybe??
